Transgender Day of Remembrance
Transgender Day of Remembrance is observed annually on 20th November to honor and remember those lost to transphobic violence. It is a day for grieving, reflecting, and standing in solidarity as a community. The day serves as a reminder to recognize the lives and stories of transgender individuals and to advocate for an end to transphobia. It also provides an opportunity for allies and members of the trans community to come together in support and remembrance.

Marking Transgender Day of Remembrance at Pride Verse
Every year on 20th November, we come together to observe Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR). It’s a day to remember those lost to transphobic violence and to honour their lives. This day is about grieving, reflecting, and standing in solidarity as a community.
In this post, you’ll discover:
- Why Transgender Day of Remembrance exists.
- A personal reflection from one of our volunteers on what this day means to them.
- Ways to join vigils across Scotland and show your support.
Why Transgender Day of Remembrance Matters
Transgender Day of Remembrance is a solemn occasion to honour the lives of transgender individuals who have been taken by acts of hatred and violence. It’s a time to reflect on the systemic issues that perpetuate discrimination and violence against the trans community, and to commit to building a safer, more inclusive world.
Whether you’re part of the trans community or an ally, this day is a powerful reminder to ensure these lives and stories are never forgotten.
A Personal Reflection
One of our volunteers shares their thoughts on what TDoR means to them:
“For me, Transgender Day of Remembrance is deeply personal. It’s a day to mourn, yes, but also to recognize the strength and resilience of our community. Each name we remember represents a life that mattered, a story that deserved more time. This day motivates me to keep fighting for a world where trans people can live freely, safely, and authentically.”
